Niseko WOW Pro-Am 2020 Summary
Hanazono Golf provided the stage for Niseko Wows 7th Pro-Am competition attracting 8 Pro Golfers representing 5 different countries. Only one player in the field, Richard Tate, had previously competed in the Niseko Wow Pro-Am however his opponents were eager to make an impact on their debut appearance.
As ever, the Hanazono grounds team maintained their course in immaculate condition and our Pro players were impressed with the contoured greens making for a challenging task ahead.
Kinoshita-san took a two stroke lead on Day 1 of the event, carding an impressive score of 68 with the pro field tightly bunched behind him and well placed to close the gap on Sunday.
A relaxed evening followed where players and sponsors came together to share an evening meal, some social drinks and tales from the first round before the players retreated to their luxury accommodation including revitalising onsens to prepare for Day 2.
Despite some damp conditions over the weekend, the sun came out for periods and wasn't the only thing to shine as Otsuki-san, who sat in joint second place overnight went four under par on the front nine holes to stake a claim for the title. Kinoshita-san held his nerve though, finishing out the round with a five under par back nine to go six under par for the weekend and claim the 2020 title by a single stroke from Otsuki-san. Dinesh Chand completed the top three who all finished the competition in minus figures.
Players departed Niseko with a new found awareness of what Hokkaido has to offer during summer, a taste for the amazing local food and an appetite to return next year to contend the 2021 competition which is sure to be a key date in the golfing calendar.
